It's an ancient practice from India dating back about 5,000 years. It is based in Hindu philosophy. Yoga cultivates a sense of health and well being from a holistic Eastern approach of understanding the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit. Yoga consists of a series of postures (<em>asanas</em>) combined with simple breathing, relaxation and meditation techniques to increase flexibility and strength while reducing stress and physical tension. </p> <p>Pilates on the other hand, is a movement system developed in the West by Joseph Pilates in the 1920&#8217;s. It is based on the interconnectedness of body and mind and its goal is to create core stability through good coordination, body awareness and fluid movement. It helps develop overall joint mobility, good body balance and alignment and promotes injury prevention and rehabilitation. </p> <p><strong><em>Do I need any special equipment? </em></strong><br> No special equipment is needed for yoga or pilates. If you have a yoga mat you can bring it along. All the exercises are performed on mats on the floor.</p> <p><strong><em>Can I do Yoga or Pilates if I'm pregnant? </em></strong><br> Yes. You should consult with your doctor first. We will take a very gentle approach and we will move according to the changes of your body through each of the trimesters of your pregnancy.</p> <p><strong><em>What should I wear? </em></strong><br> Workout clothing is appropriate. Sports bra, tank top, workout tights or shorts are all fine.</p> <p><strong><em>I work in downtown Toronto, can I arrange a corporate yoga session? </em></strong><br> Certainly.
